How this calculator works

The basic 8/44 rule uses the greater of total daily overtime hours over 8 and weekly hours over 44. Paid overtime is at least 1.5 times the regular wage. A valid written agreement may instead credit at least one paid hour off for each overtime hour.

What this version does not decide

  • Averaging arrangements
  • Occupations with different daily, weekly or monthly thresholds
  • Managers, supervisors, listed professionals and other exempt roles
  • An agreement or established written practice with a lower threshold

Where any exclusion applies, use the official source or obtain qualified advice before relying on an estimate.
