Source hierarchy

1. Legislation and regulations: official federal, provincial or territorial statutes and regulations.
2. Official government guidance: ministry, labour standards and employment standards publications.
3. Official rate notices and tables: date-effective minimum wage, contribution or threshold publications.
4. Secondary professional commentary: used only for context or issue identification, not as the sole authority for a formula.

Effective dates and archived rules

Rates and statutory rules are stored or described with an effective date. When an input date changes the applicable rule, the calculator should identify the rule version used. Superseded information may be retained for historical calculations but must be clearly labelled.

Citations and links

Calculator and legal-content pages link as close as practical to the official provision, guide or rate notice supporting the material claim. Broad home-page links are not a substitute for a specific source when a more precise official page is available.

Conflicting or unclear information

If authoritative sources appear inconsistent, the page is held, qualified or updated only after the discrepancy is resolved. WageWise Canada does not choose the interpretation that merely produces the simplest calculator.
